Your First House Call

For your initial house call, our dentist will arrive with a registered dental assistant. We’ll get to know you by reviewing your medical and dental history, listening carefully to your concerns and answering all of your questions. If you are a caregiver (including family member, facility staff member or primary care physician), we will go through the same process with you on behalf of your loved one or charge. We don’t start working until you’re absolutely comfortable that we fully understand the needs of everyone concerned.

Comfort for infirm patients
We are experienced at putting our patients at ease, and we are able to make full accommodations for patients who are bedbound or in a wheelchair.

Examination and diagnosis
The dentist will then conduct a visual examination, looking for issues involving discomfort and/or pain, proper function and aesthetics. Our initial assessment includes diagnosis of cavities, gum disease, oral cancer, infection and/or abscesses, proper denture fit, dry mouth and loose teeth. Our dental assistant will also take photographs of your mouth for your records.

Next comes a full set of x-rays, focusing in on areas of particular concern, which the dentist can interpret immediately.

Consultation and treatment planning
Based on what we learn from the examination and x-rays, we will consult with you regarding our diagnoses and review your treatment options. Shortly after our initial visit, a BAHCD patient care coordinator will contact you to schedule cleanings and any further treatment necessary.

Finally, a Patient Care Coordinator from our office will follow up with you to make arrangements for any necessary treatment, including cleanings. This includes a discussion of fees, insurance options and possible payment plans. Whenever possible, follow up care will be arranged at your (or your charge’s) residence.

Dental emergencies will be handled immediately, to the full extent possible.

Follow Up Care

In-Home Hygiene Care

If you wish and if necessary, we can arrange to have a mobile dental hygienist (an RDHAP) visit you to provide:

  • A professional cleaning
  • An in-depth oral cancer screening
  • Fluoride treatments
  • Oral hygiene instruction

The dental hygienist, a trusted member of the Bay Area House Call Dentists team, will remain in continued communication with your BAHCD dentist regarding each patient’s condition and treatment.

In-Home Follow Up Dental Care

If necessary, your BAHCD dentist can return to your residence to provide a wide range of follow up dental care including:

  • Basic dental restorations
  • Extractions
  • Full and partial dentures creation
  • Denture adjustments
  • Custom nightguards design
  • Custom fluoride trays creation

If it is found that you require extensive dental treatment, the procedures may need to be completed in our office or at your local hospital utilizing sedation dentistry or sleep dentistry.

Sedation Dentistry and Sleep Dentistry

Dental Treatment with Sedation Dentistry or Sleep Dentistry

Some dental care cannot be offered in the home, due to patient safety concerns, the complexity of the procedure and/or the equipment required. On such occasions, it becomes necessary for us to offer care at our offices or, for some procedures, in the hospital. Your BAHCD Patient Care Coordinator will be glad to help arrange transportation and/or companion services as necessary.

For patients who have a disability, physical limitation, complex medical condition or a severe fear of the dentist, we can often offer sedation or sleep dentistry. Sleep dentistry, as the name suggests, is a service whereby we provide dental care while the patient sleeps. This procedure greatly minimizes both physical and emotional discomfort for the patient.

For patients eligible for Sedation Dentistry or Sleep Dentistry we can provide the following dental procedures while you are asleep:

  • Cosmetic and Restorative Dentistry
  • Dental Examinations, Diagnosis and Treatment
  • Crown and Bridge (Porcelain, Zirconium, Lava, Gold)
  • Inlays / Onlays
  • Veneers
  • Composite Fillings
  • Implants
  • Periodontal (gum) Treatment
  • Root Canal Therapy
  • Sealants
  • Extractions
  • Dentures and Partial Dentures
  • Removable Dentures with mini-implants
